A set of two natural Talalay latex pillows from Savvy Rest
A set of Sleepout blackout curtains
The Air Essentials Starter System air quality monitor kit from Aranet
Approximate total retail value: $1,700.
Thank you so much to Weddell Duo, Savvy Rest, Sleepout, Medley, and Aranet for donating the prizes. These are five of the brands I’ve worked with for years because I respect their deep commitment to transparency, accuracy, and better materials. Pillows, air, light, and water quality are the places I always recommend starting with when creating a healthier home. You can read more about each prize and why I chose them at the bottom of this page.
More About the Prizes
A little more on why I chose these prizes and brands:
Medley’s furniture is handmade in the US, and they offer a spectrum of materials balancing affordability and health. They’re very transparent and emphasize third party certifications. I have their Mota Bumper Sectional in wool and latex, and it’s beautiful and durable. They have smaller couches, sleeper sofas, storage furniture, chairs, and dining tables, too.
Two Savvy Rest Natural Talalay Pillows
Talalay latex is hands down my favorite thing to sleep on. It is so squishy and supportive at the same time, and Savvy Rest is unique for using Talalay with C2C Gold certification. Each pillow is wrapped in a GOTS-certified organic cotton case. Choosing a healthy pillow is something I recommend doing even before choosing a healthy mattress because your airway, skin, and mouth are in such close contact with it every night. A wonderful brand that backs up all of their claims.
These are the only 100% blackout curtains that are both OEKO TEX Class I and GreenGuard Gold certified. Totally PVC free. Class I means the fabric is certified safe for skin contact with babies and toddlers, and the GreenGuard certification is important because the heat from windows has the potential to speed up off-gassing. I use their suction cup version on hot summer days in my West-facing windows and they cool the room down so much.
Aranet Air Essentials Starter System
Aranet’s indoor air quality monitors are great. They have third party testing to make sure they’re detecting radon accurately, they’re battery powered, easy to use, and focus on the essentials, instead over overstating claims. The Essentials Starter kit comes with two monitors, one that tracks CO2, temperature, humidity, and atmospheric pressure. and one continuous radon monitor, which is so important as radon is the second leading cause of lung cancer in the US.
The Weddell Duo is the only NSF-certified shower filter that removes 99% of PFAS for 5,000 gallons, 96% of particulates (like microplastics), and 87% of chlorine for 8,000 gallons. I review so many shady shower filters, and Weddell is the best for transparency: all of their filtration claims are third-party certified with results displayed prominently on their website. I love it for those reasons, but also because it has made my hair noticeably less frizzy.
