There is no perfect non-toxic food processor, but here’s my take on what’s out there. Food processors are typically not used very often and therefore, in the grand scheme of things, represent a small exposure to you if you go with an imperfect option.

Restaurant Grade Stainless Steel Food Processors

There are lots of stainless steel food processors available! They’re just not made for home use, but for restaurants instead, and tend to be spendy. Here is a link to WebstaurantStore’s options— most are thousands of dollars, but a few, like the Avamix shown above, are in the triple digits. An option if you are an avid cook and really rely on food processing.

Amazon Glass and Stainless Steel Food Processors

Amazon has quite a few affordable glass and stainless steel food processors under many different brand names, though many have durability issues. That said, they’re healthy, very affordable, and may work for you if you use it just for infrequent tasks, as it does for some reviewers.

Vitamix Safer Plastic Food Processor Attachment

While I love the idea that some plastics are healthier for people than others, I can’t say with confidence it’s true. Even HDPE and ABS, often considered the safest because they don’t contain BPA, can have all kinds of things mixed in like flame retardants, PFAS, UV stabilizers, and pigments. Tritan plastic, which the Vitamix food processing attachment is made of, is better than other plastics, but still aren’t 100% transparent, and back in the early 2010s were called out a few times. They do now meet Prop 65 requirements, and do not include any PTFE/Teflon, and using the same Vitamix base for both a blender and food processor cuts down on waste, which I appreciate. Again, if you’re not using your food processor frequently, this would represent an overall small exposure in your life. This is what I use.

Beaba Babycook Neo Stainless and Glass Mini Food Processor

This is a very cute food processor that’s made of stainless steel and glass, and while marketed for making baby food, could also be used for small food processing jobs. Gets consistently great reviews across platforms.

FYI ➜ “Non-toxic” doesn’t have a definition, and I use the words chemical-free, toxin, and toxic on Interior Medicine inaccurately. I do this for practical purposes, for now: they’re accessible terms that allow people to find what they’re looking for, and they’re shorthand for a complicated problem. I made an entire (free!) course about this. Check it out here.
