Coming in medium or firm, these have GOLS certification. All layers are encased in GOTS certified wool and cotton. They use the same latex in liquid form as an adhesive to keep the layers together. See all the mattresses I recommend here.
Without the optional cover, this is an ultra-affordable organic mattress pad. Made of latex, it’s GOLS certified organic. With the cotton outer, it’s GOTS certified, too. I have the 3” one in my guest room. It is so, so cozy and a great option if you’re not looking for a whole new mattress, but still want to make a healthy upgrade. The Coway AirMega is one of the most recommended air purifiers year after year. It captures super tiny particles (like mold, dust mites, and smoke from cooking or burning candles) very quickly and effectively. I have one in my own bedroom that has been running 24/7 for 5 years. Read more about how to choose the air purifier that works best for your needs and all the ones I recommend here.

No box spring required. It comes in every size. See all the bed frames I recommend here.
Organic Cotton Mattress Protector
Whisper Organics makes 100% GOTS certified organic cotton mattress protectors in every size between Twin and California King. They have this simple cotton option, as well as a waterproof option with a thin layer of non-toxic TPU sandwiched between organic cotton layers. See all the mattress protectors I recommend here.
These are the best organic sheets on Amazon. Sijo impressively has a storefront selling their GOTS-certified organic 100% linen bedding there, for convenience. They’re stone-washed for softness, instead of relying on chemical softeners like non-organic or uncertified linen brands. See all the bedding and sheets I recommend here.
Loftie makes a very cute and modern red light bedside lamp that’s great as is, but can also be used as a sunrise lamp. Pairs with their excellent alarm clock which also acts as a sound machine and meditation guide, if you want. Alarm sounds gently and display also turns red in the evenings for better sleep. See all the healthy lighting I recommend here.
Loftie makes very cute low-blue night lights in amber and red options that will cause less wakefulness like standard night lights with more blue in their glow do, so you can easily get back to sleep after safely walking around with a night light. Bathroom
Organic Cotton Shower Curtain Liner
If you’re up for waxing this fabric to make it naturally waterproof, this GOTS-certified 100% organic shower curtain liner from Bean Products is the best option from a material health standpoint and is the ultimate non PVC shower curtain liner. Best in bathrooms with dry climate and excellent ventilation. See all shower curtains I recommend here.
Hemp Shower Curtain Liner
Hemp dries more quickly than cotton or linen so doesn’t require waxing, if your bathroom is in a dry climate and well ventilated. This fabric has no certifications, but hemp doesn’t require pesticides or fertilizers to grow. Can be a good plastic shower curtain liner alternative. Use shower hooks that make it easy to remove for frequent washing. See all shower curtains I recommend here.
Otter Wax is perfect if you are going to wax your own fabric shower curtain liner to make it waterproof — the safest shower curtain liner option possible. If you’re looking for a cloth shower curtain no liner needed, this is a good way to prevent mold, bacteria, or mildew build up on it. Made in the USA —100% beeswax and plant-based oils. (See how to wax fabric here.)
OEKO TEX Polyester Shower Curtain Liner
Beware the polyester and PEVA shower curtain options that have “special coatings” to resist scum and make them even more waterproof— it often means PFAS are added. This one from Amazon Basics thankfully has no such coating and is even OEKO TEX certified. A non toxic and the most affordable PVC free shower curtain liner. See all shower curtains I recommend here.
OEKO TEX Certified PEVA Shower Curtain Liner
Most options on Amazon have a “special waterproof treatment” which often means PFAS, but this one doesn’t! It’s even OEKO TEX certified. No recycling service, and just one color, but very affordable and highly rated. Scroll down to read why PEVA is relatively non toxic. See all shower curtains I recommend here.
This is the best shower filter for chlorine. It’s third party tested to remove 80-90% of chlorine for 10,000 gallons (about 6 months worth of daily showering for 2 adults). Only needs replacing twice a year. Read more about shower filters that actually work and all the ones I recommend here.

Living Room
GOTS certified organic throw blankets for your couch in great colors, that are quite affordable!
Kitchen
A super affordable solid wood dining table brand — I actually have their nightstands, and finished them with non-toxic stain, and they’re high quality and great. The only issue is that their glue is unspecified and requires a Prop 65 for formaldehyde. While I’m not normally a fan, it is so hard to find unfinished, affordable, solid wood furniture— in this case, the benefits outweigh the costs for me. I simply let mine off-gas outdoors for a few days, though in my opinion, they were far less smelly than even IKEA’s glues are. An imperfectly healthy wood option! See all dining tables I recommend here.
I have the original Dorai dish drying rack, made of stainless steel and instant-drying diatomaceous earth, so there’s never any mold, mildew, or smells to worry about. I like not having to wash a towel or introduce more plastic into my home, too. Dorai no longer has this model, but has other great dish drying methods and other goods available through Amazon to keep your kitchen dry and clean.
Many more kitchen products including pots, pans, slow cookers, cutting boards, cleaning sprays, and other things that stay tucked away in kitchen cabinets— listed in the Look Inside section, and many are available through Amazon. Sign up for $4/month or $40/year here. While I appreciate your support, you can of course cancel anytime!
Aquasana has the best Reverse Osmosis (RO) and non-RO under-sink water filters on Amazon. I have their Claryum 3 Stage. They’re certified by NSF to remove what they claim to — read more about this and see all under sink water filters I recommend here.
Adjustable Desk Converter
I have yet to see one of these small, heavy duty desk converters made from something other than engineered wood. But, I needed a strong and small converter that didn’t require disassembly between sitting and standing. My office is upstairs through a narrow staircase, I use a heavy computer, and I have to transition between sitting and standing quickly sometimes. To balance these conveniences with unhealthy engineered wood, I use a wool pad where I come in contact with it. See all desks I recommend here.
The Awair Element is an ultra-accurate residential home indoor air quality monitor that is RESET certified. It monitors indoor VOCs, PM 2.5, CO2, temperature, and humidity, with an easy-to-read screen. I use one in my office upstairs, where high carbon dioxide levels can make me sleepy and unfocused (see my video about it here.) See all air quality monitors I recommend here.
Adjustable Metal Legs for a DIY Sit Stand Desk
You can control the material health of your sit-stand desk if you add your own top to these electronic adjustable metal legs. Use a healthy stain or paint on a piece of solid wood, or something you already own. A more affordable standing desk option. See all desks I recommend here.
Another more affordable standing desk option, a glass desk means you don’t have to worry about what kind of wood or stain is used. Add a wool desk pad if it’s too cold to the touch. This one from Amazon is highly rated and comes in relatively small sizes (40”) to large sizes, as well. See all desks I recommend here.
Home Office
Air Purifiers and Indoor Air Quality Monitors
This is one of the best air purifiers for allergies to pet hair because it has a large, easily removable, washable carbon filter so you can clean it regularly. The most affordable air purifier I have listed, as well. Read more about how to choose the air purifier that works best for your needs and all the ones I recommend here.
As the name implies, this is one of the best air purifiers for removing dust. Read more about how to choose the air purifier that works best for your needs and all the ones I recommend here.
The Coway is one of the most recommended air purifiers year after year. It captures super tiny particles (like mold, dust mites, and smoke from cooking or burning candles) very quickly and effectively. I have one in my own bedroom that has been running 24/7 for 5 years. Read more about how to choose the air purifier that works best for your needs and all the ones I recommend here.
This high end air purifier removes VOCs, dust, pet hair, and pollen. Great if you don’t have time to think about filter changes— the pre-filter is huge, and is rated to last 18 months. It contains 5 pounds of activated carbon and potassium permanganate— meaning it can also capture formaldehyde. Read more about how to choose the air purifier that works best for your needs and all the ones I recommend here.
The popular water-testing company MyTapScore also offers air quality testing for VOCs and formaldehyde. If you have a mystery smell in your home, or want to understand how much formaldehyde is present upon moving in to a new-build or buying new furniture, this is a great way to check. Laboratory analysis of an air sample is required to understand what specific VOCs are present— continuous monitors are notoriously bad at knowing if something is formaldehyde or not, and can’t sort out any specific VOCs. It can only tell you that there are a lot of them, or not very many. A great service.
Another option for doing detective work, Home Air Check also sells single-use monitors through Amazon and does laboratory analysis to determine what VOCs are present. They also check for actively growing mold, which can be helpful if you have symptoms.
The Awair Element is an ultra-accurate air quality monitor for home. Like the Airthings, it’s also RESET certified, but is more affordable because it doesn’t track radon. It does monitor indoor VOCs, PM 2.5, CO2, temperature, and humidity, with an easy-to-read screen. I use this in my office upstairs, where radon isn’t a concern, but high carbon dioxide levels which make me sleepy are. You can see my video about how surprisingly fast CO2 builds up here, if you’re curious.
The Airthings View Plus is the best indoor air quality monitor overall because it tracks the most important things in your air including VOCs, PM 2.5, CO2 and radon, which sets it apart from many other options. Airthings also has radon-only monitors, sleep quality monitors, and more. A great brand, available through Amazon. (You can also use code INTERIORMED-10OFF for 10% off through the Airthings website here.)
Healthy Circadian Lighting
SORAA Zeroblue LED
These light bulbs are made with almost no blue light (less than 2%) but resemble a more normal light bulb than other blue light blocking bulbs, emitting your classic 2700K “warm white” light rather than the more yellow hue of most no-blue bulbs. Dimmable. See all healthy lighting I recommend here.
These are the true Edison bulbs I use in many of my lamps. Incandescent bulbs naturally contain almost no blue light, and they make the room very cozy.
Dyson’s SolarCycle lamps intelligently regulate blue light. They automatically adjust their color temperature based on the time of day and your location, mimicking the sun. It changes to warmer light when the sun goes down, so you can fall asleep easily. See all healthy lighting I recommend here.
These lights change colors throughout the day. You can program them to change from cool, bright white light in the mornings to warmer, dimmer light in the evenings, to red at night. Philips offers light bulbs in many sizes and shapes, as well as light strips, and it’s all controlled with an app. See all healthy lighting I recommend here.
